Wouldn’t you love it if your horse was more relaxed when being trailered and calm during those “scary” momentsw such as travelling, busy show or even a hack round some scary woods?
Well, essential oils can do just that.
Why should I use Essential Oils on my Horse?
There are a bunch of good reasons to use essential oils but the main reasons I use them are:
- Non toxic to the horse– Just like the human body, toxicity is a huge problem for our animals.
- Eco-friendly to our planet
- Easy to use– Horses can inhale using the diffusor bags which can be left in the stable, trailer or field shelter giving the option for the horse to use whenever he wants. They are also great to use whilst riding using the bridle locket.
- Extremely beneficial for helping horses stay calm and focused- The oils are another tool for the tool box when you are working with horses.
How do I use them?
It’s best to have your horse smell the oil first. Then, place a drop or two of oil on the diffusor pad and show him/her hang in the stable barn or trailer and your horse will go and smell when he/she feels they require some. For riding place pouch with the desired oil ( Improve Performance or Keep Calm) where they can sniff it whilst your tacking up then place a drop on your bridle locket which you and your horse will get scent keeping the hormone levels higher whilst you ride.
Essential oils can quickly penetrate the tissues of the skin, and from there diffuse throughout the body in the blood and tissues.
Takes just 2-3 sec for oil to reach bloodstream when used topically.
Takes 20 min for an oil to reach every cell in the body.
2 ½ – 3 hours to fully metabolize
This is a powerful and effective way to use oils!
Remember every horse is different so some oils will work on your horse and others might not. Be sue to experiment with a variety of oils before you decide they “don’t work”.
