WATCH YOUR HORSE
Notice which nostril your horse uses to smell the oil first. If he uses the left nostril first, that indicates there is an emotional component to a physical issue or your horse processes things emotionally first.
The right nostril indicates physical processing or a physical problem.
If your horse chooses the left nostril before the right with a particular oil or blend, address the emotional component first.
If you are going to use essential oils, make sure you only use 100% therapeutic grade! Oils that are not therapeutic grade can contain up to 95% solvents and only 5% actual oil!
Also, do not ingest an essential oil without the advice of a health practitioner. The vast majority of oils are not meant to be taken orally as they can be too strong for intestines, liver, and kidneys.
So, how do essential oils work?
Essential oils are made of multiple, unique molecules and compounds that the body can easily absorb.
Through aromatherapy, tiny airborne molecules from the oil are picked up by cilia and receptor cells in an olfactory organ (organs or cells that are related to the sense of smell). They then send signals to the limbic system of the brain, which controls memory and emotion.
When absorbed by the skin (or even the lungs when inhaled!), the molecules are absorbed into the blood stream and distributed to the rest of the body. And some other biological stuff. .
Essential oils also contain antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antioxidant properties.
